Geschrokken door de gebeurtenissen besluit Clara haar angsten onder ogen te zien en stort ze zich in de strijd, waarbij ze haar geliefde Notenkraker weet te redden. Ontroerd door haar moed en vervuld van dankbaarheid, verandert hij in Prince Charming en neemt Clara mee naar een sprookjesachtig koninkrijk. 
De Notenkraker, een groots ballet in twee bedrijven, werd in december 1892 voor het eerst aan het publiek gepresenteerd in het Mariinsky Theater in Sint-Petersburg. Vandaag de dag is het zonder twijfel nog steeds een van de meest uitgevoerde balletten ter wereld.
