Amsterdam, 16 January 2024 - 20 RAI volunteers set out to collect all donations after the Horecava. The overwhelming response led to the collection and sorting of carts full of breads, sauces, croquettes, drinks, vegetables and fruit. At 8pm, the Food Bank truck left with more than 280 crates/boxes and 4 pallets of food and drinks. An indescribable success!
In the Dutch catering industry, more than 51 million kilos of food end up in the waste bin every year on average, causing significant CO2 emissions and environmental problems. To reverse this worrying trend, the Horecava is proud to partner 'Together against food waste'. This initiative aims to reduce food waste and highlights the sustainable benefits it brings.
Fortunately, many hospitality businesses are already contributing to reducing food waste, not only from a sustainability point of view, but also as a cost-saving measure. The RAI proudly organised the donation programme for community initiatives during Horecava. Exhibitors had the opportunity to donate leftover items to the enthusiastic donation team. All items collected from the Horecava were donated to various Food Banks in the Netherlands.
The Donation Room programme is a RAI initiative to reduce waste and support local initiatives. This programme not only prevents food waste, but also uses valuable products to support social initiatives in the region. By doing so, the RAI continues its commitment to a sustainable and responsible future.
