The Netherlands is an important example for local food production in other countries due to its successful ecosystem, knowledge and experience. Due to Covid, many countries and regions are still dependent on import. The horticultural sector has been facing many challenges worldwide, namely in terms of labor and food production shortages, in which the Netherlands can help. During GreenTech many creative entrepreneurs from all around the world will show how they combat these problems.
GreenTech Amsterdam will take place on the 14th to the 16th of June 2022 in RAI Amsterdam. The exhibition is a meetingplace for horticultural technology professionals worldwide, that focus on common problems of producers. GreenTech is supported by AVAG, the industry organization of the Dutch greenhouse sector. During the exhibition the GreenTech Innovation Awards will be presented. GreenTech Amsterdam follows the succesful edition GreenTech Americas, which took place in the Querétaro Congress Centre in Mexico from the 27th to the 29th of April. At this event, 170 exhibitors and 3736 professionals from 19 countries got together. This is an increase of over thirty percent compared to 2021.
World firsts
Strawberry picking robot Berry is one of the 31 world firsts that will be presented during GreenTech, the international trade fair for the horticultural sector that takes place in the RAI this week. Besides this, the Micromus-system by Biobest was presented: a predator for protected crops. The event focusses on solving the world food shortage. Over 12.500 horticultural professionals from 115 countries will meet with the 500 companies contributing.
Among the innovations there is also smart solutions for lowering energy consumption in horticulture. This is one of the main issues in the industry, besides the shortage in labor. The plucking robot by the German company Organifarms has been nominated to receive the GreenTech Innovation Award for most promising new concept suring the opening of the exhibition.
